Boy, 13, Killed in North County Crash on Rainbow Glen Road
13-Year-Old Boy Dies, Mother and 6-Year-Old Girl Injured in Rainbow Crash on Rainbow Glen Road and Old Highway 395

North County, California (July 23, 2019) – A 13-year-old boy was killed, his mother and his 6-year-old sister were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after a traffic accident in the North County community of Rainbow, according to authorities.
The deadly wreck occurred at about 4:48 p.m. on Rainbow Glen Road and Old Highway 395.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Pilot driven by the mother, was attempting to travel eastbound Rainbow Glen Road across Old Highway 395.
After stopping at the red light, the Honda drove into the intersection and was hit by a northbound semi that had no stop sign or stoplight. The CHP said the big rig was possibly traveling at around 55 mph.
The semi burst into flames after the impact, causing flames to spread onto a nearby brush. Emergency crews responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze.

The 13-year-old boy, who was in the front passenger seat of the Honda, died in the crash. His mother, the driver, was transported by ground ambulance to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
A 6-year-old girl, who was in the back right passenger seat was also transported to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. The man driving the truck complained of pain and was transported to Palomar Medical Center.
The names of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
Old Highway 395 was closed following the crash.
No further details were immediately available.
The crash remains under investigation.
