Bakersfield, California (June 24, 2021) – Billy Shane Traves, 44, of Stockton, was among two people who were killed Wednesday morning in a traffic collision in Bakersfield, authorities said.

The deadly collision was reported at about 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 23 on Interstate 5 near State Route 43, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to the authorities, a vehicle, occupied by Traves and David Victor James Hamilton, 51, of Modesto, was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 when their tire blew out, causing the vehicle to roll over.

The vehicle then slammed into the center median. Due to the impact, Traves and Hamilton were ejected from the vehicle. One of them landed in the northbound lanes and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Traves and Hamilton were killed in the accident.

Another person in the other car sustained major injuries.
