Sunland, California (September 10, 2019) – 55-year-old Charles Mentzer died about two weeks after he was involved in a hit-and-run crash in Sunland, authorities said.

The bicycle versus car crash happened at around 2:15 a.m. on August 23 on Foothill Boulevard at Oro Vista Avenue.

Reportedly, Mentzer was riding his bicycle westbound on Foothill Boulevard when a white, possibly older-model Toyota Prius struck him.

Authorities said the car was possibly traveling in the same direction as the bicyclist at the time of the crash. The force of the crash threw Mentzer off his bike and into a parked car.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the crash.

Responding emergency personnel rushed Mentzer to the hospital where he later died on September 3rd.

Authorities said the suspect vehicle may have acquired right-front passenger-side damage in the accident.

Police are looking for the suspect driver.
