Brian Chuc Killed in Merced County Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident on Bellevue Road, Michael Harris Arrested

Merced County, California (July 15, 2021) – 22-year-old Brian Chuc, of Los Angeles, has been identified as the bicyclist who died following a traffic collision Monday night in Merced County.
The deadly hit-and-run crash happened just around 9:00 p.m. on Bellevue Road near Utah Street.
Brian was riding a bicycle on the highway when he was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by 64-year-old Michael Harris, of Santa Paula, for unknown reasons.

Chuc, a young UC Merced student, died in the accident.
Michael did not stop to render aid to the bicyclist and fled the scene southbound on Utah Street. He later called 911 around 11:30 p.m. from his home in Kern County near Bakersfield, reporting that he had been in the accident.
Harris was apprehended by Merced CHP officers and returned to Merced, where he was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of criminal homicide, driving a vehicle with gross negligence, and hit-and-run resulting in death or injury.
The accident remains under active investigation.
