Berkeley, California (July 24, 2020) – A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries following a traffic crash that happened Thursday morning on a freeway in Berkeley, according to a local news source.  

The accident was reported to the California Highway Patrol at about 10:25 a.m. Thursday, July 23, on the 80 Freeway near the Gilman Street exit.  

According to the CHP report, a white Mercedes sedan was traveling on the freeway when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into a wall. The Mercedes then hit a black sports motorcycle that was traveling in the westbound lane of the 80 Freeway.   

After the impact, the Mercedes overturned and landed upright. A semi-truck was reportedly involved in the crash.

First responders arrived at the location and found the motorcycle rider suffering from major injuries following the crash. The patient was transported to a hospital for treatment. The name and current condition of the victim were not available.  

No other injuries were immediately reported.  

The Numbers 4 and 5 lanes of the westbound 80 Freeway at Gilman were closed for nearly one hour due to the crash.  

An investigation into the accident is underway.
