Berkant Ahmed Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 101 in San Francisco

San Francisco, California (October 3, 2019) – One of the four people who were killed early Thursday morning in a traffic accident involving a wrong-way driver in San Francisco has been identified as Berkant Ramadan Ahmed, 42, of San Mateo County.

The fatal accident happened at about 12:30 a.m. on Highway 101 near Paul Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an intoxicated woman was reportedly driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 when her Volkswagen collided head-on with a taxi carrying Ahmed and another person.

One of the passengers in the taxi was ejected from the vehicle upon the impact.

Both drivers died in the crash. Ahmed and the other passenger were also killed in the wreck.

All lanes of northbound U.S. 101 were shut down for nearly seven hours following the crash. As of 7:00 a.m., the roads were reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
