Moreno Valley Man Killed, 37-Year-Old Norwalk Woman Hospitalized after 60 Freeway Crash in Beaumont

Beaumont, California (January 22, 2019) – A Moreno Valley man fleeing from authorities by traveling the wrong way on the 60 Freeway was killed and a 37-year-old Norwalk woman was hospitalized after the pursuit ended in a traffic accident in Beaumont late Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The chase started at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, January 20 with officers following the driver on the westbound 60 Freeway at speeds exceeding 80 mph.
At Jack Rabbit Trail, the man turned the 1998 Toyota Corolla he was driving around and entered the off-ramp of the eastbound lanes of the freeway and drove in the wrong direction, according to officials.
After three miles, the man hit a 2018 Kia Nitro driven by the Norwalk woman in the slow lane.
The Moreno Valley man was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been disclosed pending identification and notification of his relatives.
The Norwalk woman sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.
It was immediately unknown why the authorities were chasing the suspect.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
