Bakersfield, California (July 29, 2021) – A man was struck and killed by a vehicle in east Bakersfield on Thursday night, according to CHP.

The incident occurred on Niles Street and West Drive at about 8:51 p.m. 

CHP said a man was trying to walk across the street when he was struck by a vehicle. The victim was not using the crosswalk when he was struck.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

There were no further details on the crash.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
