Baker, California (August 10, 2020) – One adult and two juveniles were killed in a big rig accident on Saturday night in Baker, authorities said.

At about 7:00 p.m., on August 8, the California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly accident on the northbound Interstate 15 freeway, near Mile Post Marker 144.50.

The CHP said a Chrysler minivan, driven by a 32- year-old woman from San Francisco, was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a 2019 Kenworth 3-Axle tractor truck and trailer combination.

Following the collision, the minivan became wedged underneath the big rig and caught fire.

3 Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash on Interstate 15 in Baker

A 12-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the flames were contained, two female passengers, ages 15 and 18, were found deceased inside the minivan.

The driver of the van and its passengers, a 35-year-old female from San Francisco, a 16-year-old female, and a 9-year-old male, were airlifted to Las Vegas University Medical Center with moderate to serious injuries.

The big rig driver, a 61-year-old male from Homer, was unhurt in the accident.

Traffic on the freeway was stopped for an unknown period due to the accident.

It was not clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the mishap.

The crash remains under investigation.
