Rio Linda, California (April 11, 2019) – The newborn baby who was delivered early after his mother was struck and critically injured by a vehicle Monday night in Rio Linda has succumbed.
According to a local news source, the accident was reported just after 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 8 on M Street near 4th Avenue.
The CHP said a Jeep driven by Ronny Ward III, 23, drifted off to the right shoulder of the roadway and crashed into a parked Chevrolet Impala.
The impact of the crash pushed the Impala into Ciara Villegas, 23, who was standing in front of the car.
Baby Ricky Dies after Rio Linda DUI Crash on M Street
Villegas, who was six months pregnant, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. Doctors reportedly performed “C” section to deliver her son, Ricky, who was also listed in critical condition.
According to the news source, Ricky was pronounced deceased on Wednesday, April 10.
Ward was arrested and transported into custody on suspicion of DUI and driving with a suspended license.
The incident remained under investigation.
