Austin Elkins Among 2 Teens Injured in Temecula Pedestrian Accident on De Portola Road near Avenida Felicita

Temecula, California (October 19, 2020) – Austin Elkins has been identified as one of the two teens who were hit and injured by a vehicle as they were running with a group of runners on a training run on Saturday morning in Temecula, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 8:00 a.m., on October 17, on De Portola Road, east of Avenida Felicita.
According to the California Highway Patrol, two members of the South Temecula Track Club cross country program, Elkins and Jacob Brown, were struck by a 2016 Ford F-250 operated by an 18-year-old female driver.
The truck was traveling eastbound on De Portola Road at about 45 mph when it began to pass the runners. The driver made an unsafe turning movement causing the truck to drift over to the roadway edge, the officials said.
Unfortunately, the truck struck the two boys knocking them onto the dirt shoulder.
Austin Elkins Injured in Temecula Pedestrian Accident on De Portola Road
Elkins and Brown sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment.
The involved driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
