Los Osos, California (July 20, 2021) – An elderly woman was seriously injured after being hit by a truck while cycling in Los Osos Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The major injury bicycle accident happened at around 9:50 a.m. at the intersection of South Bay Boulevard and Turri Road.

The CHP said a 73-year-old woman from Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo County, was riding her bicycle southbound in the bike lane on South Bay Boulevard when she tried to make a left turn onto Turri Road and was hit by a commercial truck that was heading southbound.

The woman was thrown off the bike upon the impact.

Bicyclist Seriously Injured after Being Hit by Truck in Los Osos

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the woman unconscious on the roadway. She was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. Her name and current condition were not disclosed.

The driver of the truck stopped at the scene after hitting the bicyclist.

South Bay Boulevard was closed for nearly half an hour while the investigation took place.

The crash remains under investigation.
