Arleta, California (August 31, 2020) – A pedestrian died after being struck by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate transport bus early Monday morning in the Arlet area, authorities said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly pedestrian accident happened at around 3:20 a.m. on 5 Freeway near Osborne Street.
As per the report, the pedestrian was hit by the LASD bus in the northbound lanes of the freeway. Details of what led up to the accident at this time are unknown.
Deadly Pedestrian Crash on 5 Freeway in Arleta
The pedestrian was killed in the crash. The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities said the driver was the only occupant of the LASD bus at the time of the accident.
The northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were closed while the investigation is conducted. Motorists were being diverted off the 5 Freeway at Osborne Street.
The accident remains under investigation.
