Redlands, California (April 19, 2021) – A 91-year-old woman died early Sunday morning following a late Saturday night two-car crash that left 5 other people injured at a Redlands intersection.
According to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the collision was reported at about 11:12 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Crafton Avenue and Citrus Avenue.
According to the Coroner Press Release, the 91-year-old woman, identified as Antonia Portillo from Mentone, was a passenger in Mazda CX-5 that was struck by a Mazda6 at the intersection. Antonia was transported by ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where she was declared dead at 12:08 a.m. Sunday, April 18, 2021.
According to CHP, the Mazda CX-5 was eastbound on Citrus Avenue and had stopped at a stop sign at Crafton Avenue. The driver then started to make a left turn onto northbound Crafton Avenue just when a southbound Mazda6 drove through the stop sign at the intersection and crashed into the left front of the Mazda CX-5.
CHP officials say a total of six people, including Antonia, were taken to hospitals with minor to major injuries. Three patients were taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center while the other three were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
