Long Beach, California (February 26, 2019) – Police have identified the man struck and killed by a suspected DUI driver on Sunday afternoon in Long Beach as Andrew Francis McClain, 43.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at about 12:30 p.m. February 25, in the northbound lanes of the 710 Freeway south of Anaheim Street.

Police said McClain was walking south in the northbound lanes of the freeway when a Toyota Prius struck him.

McClain was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was not yet clear why the victim was on the freeway.

The driver, whose name was not released, was immediately arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The crash is under investigation.
