Mendocino County, California (May 11, 2021) – A driver who fled the scene after fatally hitting a pedestrian last week in Brooktrails, Mendocino County, has surrendered to the police.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened at about 1:40 a.m. May 7, on Sherwood Road near Birch Terrace.

41-year-old Paul W. Brown, of Fort Bragg, was walking on the shoulder of Sherwood Road when he was struck by a westbound 2019 silver Hyundai Accent.

Brown died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Hyundai, Aaron L. Manning, 26, of Willits, initially left the scene but later contacted the authorities and surrendered.

Manning had not been arrested as of Monday morning.

No additional information about the accident was provided

An investigation into the accident is underway.
