Rachel Payne Injured in Salinas Car Crash on Highway 101
Salinas, California (June 20, 2019) – One of the two people injured in a crash that left one other person dead in Salinas Wednesday morning has been identified as Rachel Payne, 28, of Gonzales, according to a local news source.
The fatal crash, which was reported at about 9:46 a.m. June 19, occurred on US Highway 101, near Potter Road.
According to CHP, a black 2011 BMW was traveling southbound on the highway when it drifted across the median into the northbound side and collided with an oncoming black Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep was being driven by Payne.
The BMW continued traveling in a ditch and struck a fence before coming to rest on its roof.
Rachel Payne Injured in Fatal Salinas Traffic Accident
Payne sustained minor injuries and was taken to Natividad Medial Center in Salinas.
The driver of the BMW died in the collision. The driver was only identified as a resident of Gonzales.
A passenger in the BMW, a 25-year-old Gonzales Resident, was also transported to Natividad for treatment of minor injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The CHP said alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
