Tulare County, California (June 18, 2019) – Judith Claborn, 72 of Porterville, has been identified one of the two people were injured in a multi-car accident that also killed a 56-year-old Porterville woman Monday afternoon in Porterville.
The fatal crash happened just before 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 17 at the intersection of Westwood Street and Avenue 178, between Porterville and Strathmore.
Authorities said a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by a 40-year-old Strathmore woman, was heading northbound on Westwood Street when for reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet veered off the east road edge of Westwood Street and over-corrected to the west.
The Chevrolet then crossed into southbound traffic and collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla sedan driven by the 56-year-old Porterville woman. The force of the impact caused the Chevrolet to collide with a Jeep Cherokee while the Toyota careened across the roadway and hit an olive tree.

Claborn, who was a passenger in the Jeep, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the Jeep was also hospitalized with minor injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained major injuries and was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
The Toyota driver died at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
It is not known if the drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Authorities closed roads at Westwood and avenues 178 and 182 as they investigated the accident. Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
