Woman Killed in Tulare County Crash at Westwood Street and Avenue 178 between Porterville and Strathmore

Tulare County, California (June 18, 2019) – A woman was killed and two other people were injured Monday afternoon in a traffic accident in Tulare County, according to a local news source.
The deadly three-car accident was reported just before 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 17 at the intersection of Westwood Street and Avenue 178, between Porterville and Strathmore.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by a 40-year-old Strathmore woman, was heading northbound on Westwood Street when for an unknown reason, the Chevrolet veered off the east road edge of Westwood Street.
The Chevrolet then over-corrected to the west and crossed into southbound traffic, where it collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla sedan driven by a 56-year-old Porterville woman. The force of the impact caused the Chevrolet to collide with a Jeep Cherokee and the Toyota careened across the roadway and slammed into an olive tree.

The Toyota driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained major injuries and was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
The driver of the Jeep, Jerry Claborn, 76 of Porterville, and his passenger Judith Claborn, 72 of Porterville, sustained minor injuries and were transported to a hospital.
The names of the deceased victim and the Chevrolet driver have not been disclosed. It’s unknown if the drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Authorities closed roads at Westwood and avenues 178 and 182 as they investigated the accident. Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
