Ceres, California (June 12, 2019) – One of the female parties injured in a minivan accident in Ceres Monday afternoon has been identified as 30-year-old Aurelia Martinez, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. June 10, on Highway 99 near Service Road.

As per the reports, the accident happened when a minivan driven by a 32-year-old Benigno Martinez Diaz with nine occupants’ rear-ended a Chevrolet Tahoe at about 45 mph in stop-and-go traffic through Ceres. The initial report showed that the minivan had a capacity of only eight passengers.

A total of six children in the minivan were injured following the wreck. At least three of them, including the most seriously injured, were not wearing seat belts or in car seats. Two 8-year-old kids suffered minor injuries while Julissa Martinez and another 10-month-old girl sustained unspecified injuries. The other two kids were airlifted to the hospital for treatment of significant injuries. Diaz was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries.

Aurelia Martinez suffered minor injuries while the other female adult identified as 32-year-old Blanca Marez sustained severe hurts as a result of the accident. The driver of the Chevrolet identified as a 61-year-old Joseph Volk of Georgia was wearing a seat belt and wasn’t injured.

No further details regarding the wreck have been released to this time but the investigation is ongoing.
