Coarsegold, California (May 29, 2019) – Authorities have identified Elizabeth Ellston, 48, of Coarsegold as one of the three people who were injured Monday afternoon in a two-car accident in Coarsegold.

The major injury crash happened at around 2:45 p.m. Monday, May 27 on Highway 41, just north of Yosemite Springs Parkway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1998 Mazda truck was heading southbound on Highway 41 when a 2017 Ford F150 was stopped to turn left in the southbound lane of Highway 41, directly ahead of the Mazda.

CHP said the driver of the Mazda tried to stop but was unsuccessful and slammed into the rear of the Ford. The Mazda then continued off the west edge of the highway and landed approximately 50 feet off the road on its roof.

3 Injured in Highway 41 Accident Monday, May 27

Ellston, who was a passenger in the Ford, was airlifted to a hospital with possibly major injuries while both drivers were taken by ground ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate to major injuries.

Authorities shut down Highway 41 as they cleaned up the scene and investigated the crash. As 3:37 p.m. both lanes were reopened.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
