50-Year-Old Alexander Merz Killed in Johnson Valley Accident on Old Woman Springs Road
Johnson Valley, California (May 25, 2019) – An Air Force colonel who was hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision in Johnson Valley last Thursday afternoon has succumbed to his injuries, according to a local news source.
The two-vehicle collision was reported at around 4:40 p.m. May 16, on Old Woman Springs Road near Olivine Road.
As per the CHP reports, the accident occurred when a Ford F-150 pick-up truck driven by Anthony Wilson, 27, of Twentynine Palms, who was southbound on Old Woman Springs Road, moved into the northbound lane to pass traffic. The truck crashed head-on with a 2018 Nissan Versa which was traveling northbound on Old Woman Springs Road.

The driver of the Nissan was identified as a Col. Merz.
Merz sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he was pronounced deceased on May 19.
Wilson was taken to Desert Regional by ground ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash remained under investigation.
