San Francisco, California (May 10, 2019) – A driver was killed Friday morning in a head-on collision in San Francisco, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly accident happened at about 4:45 a.m. on River Road near U.S. Highway 101 overpass

The CHP officials said a Recology truck driven by Sergio Ramirez, 50, of Santa Rosa, was heading westbound on River Road when for an unknown reason it collided head-on with a Honda Civic that was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of River Road.

Deadly Wrong-Way Crash on River Road in San Francisco

According to the CHP, Ramirez braked and the driver of the Honda attempted to swerve to the right prior to the collision.

The male driver of the Honda, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ramirez was uninjured in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
