Phelan, California (May 10, 2019) – The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner has identified Gary Thacker, 23, of Phelan as the man who was killed early Monday morning in a two-car crash in Phelan.

The deadly accident took place at about 2:53 a.m. Monday, May 6 in the area of Phelan Road and Vinton Road.

A preliminary investigation showed that a Mazda pickup truck may have been traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Phelan Road when it collided head-on with an oncoming Hyundai.

Thacker, who was the driver of the Mazda, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 3:19 by emergency responders.

The other driver, a 22-year-old Pinon Hills man, was treated for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
