13-Year-Old San Marcos Boy Killed, DUI Suspect Arrested after Fountain Valley Crash on 405 Freeway near Euclid Street

Fountain Valley, California (April 1, 2019) – A 13-year-old San Marcos boy was killed and several other people were injured Saturday night in an alleged DUI accident in Fountain Valley, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fatal crash happened at about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, March 30 on the 405 Freeway near Euclid Street.
According to the CHP, a 2015 Honda Odyssey minivan occupied by a family of five was stopped in the northbound HOV lane on 405 Freeway when the driver of a black 2014 Toyota Tacoma failed to see the vehicle and rear-ended it. The Toyota was then hit in the rear by a 2019 Toyota Tacoma.
The 13-year-old San Marcos boy was among the five occupants of the van. He was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The other occupants were hospitalized with moderate to major injuries.
Driver Arrested After Fatal Car Crash in Fountain Valley
The Toyota driver, a 24-year-old Tustin resident, sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The occupants of the 2019 Toyota Tacoma were treated for minor injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
