Duane Roork, Jose Gomez and Thomas York Injured in Nice Car Accident on Highway 20 near Lakeshore Boulevard
Nice, California (March 20, 2019) – Three people were injured early Tuesday morning in a head-on collision in Nice, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened at around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 19 on Highway 20, just east of Lakeshore Boulevard.
The CHP said Duane Roork, 57, was driving westbound on Highway 20 at around 50 mph when for an unknown reason his blue 2009 Toyota Corolla crossed the solid double yellow lines into the eastbound lane and directly in the path of a 2012 Kenworth T660 semi-truck hauling a trailer eastbound at approximately 45 mph.
The driver of the semi truck, Jose Gomez, 29, of Williams, turned right in an attempt to avoid the Toyota, but couldn’t prevent the head-on collision. The force of the impact pushed the Toyota across the westbound lane, where it struck a white 2012 Dodge Ram pickup that was traveling westbound at 50 mph, directly behind the Toyota.
As a result of the collision, the Dodge ended up on the highway’s north shoulder while the Toyota also came to a stop on its wheels on the north shoulder. The semi truck came to rest partially up the north embankment to the east of the Toyota.
Major-Injury Crash on Highway 20 in Nice Tuesday
According to the CHP, all three drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
Roork was airlifted by a REACH air ambulance to Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville with major injuries including a broken ankle and punctured lung.
The driver of the Dodge, Thomas York, 50, of Clearlake Oaks, and Gomez sustained minor injuries in the crash. Both were treated at the crash site and released.
Fatigue was a suspected factor in the collision, according to investigators.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
