La Jolla, California (March 10, 2019) – The second person who was killed Saturday afternoon in a  hang gliding accident in La Jolla has been identified as Raul Gonzalez Valerio, 61, of Laguna Hills, according to authorities.

The tragic accident occurred at around 2:40 p.m. Saturday, March 9 at Torrey Pines Glider Port.

According to a local news source, Glenn Johnny Peter Bengtsson, 43, of Carlsbad, was going southbound when he made a sharp turn and collided with Valerio, who was going northbound.

Both Valerio and Bengtsson fell into the side of the cliff after the impact. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
