Turlock Man Killed in Modesto Car Crash on Highway 99 near Hatch Road

Modesto, California (March 3, 2019) – A man was killed in a deadly two-vehicle collision in Modesto on Saturday morning.
According to a CHP report, the incident happened around 8:42 a.m. March 2, on Highway 99 near Hatch Road.
CHP said A. Morfin, a 27-year-old Ceres man, was driving a Toyota Prius northbound on Highway 99 in the last lane. Morfin traveled through standing water on the highway and turned his vehicle. The right front of the Prius collided with the left rear of a Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the middle lane.
The impact caused the truck to drift to the right, pivoted and struck the curb. The truck eventually went through a chain-link fence and landed in an open field.
According to the report, the truck driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity was not immediately released but the authorities said he was a 41-year-old man from Turlock.
Morfin and his passenger were not injured in the collision.
Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash, CHP said.
The investigation is ongoing.
