Selma, CA: 8-Year-Old Boy Killed in DUI Crash on Rose Avenue at Bethel Avenue

Selma, California (February 25, 2019) – An 8-year-old boy was killed when an alleged drunken driver struck a car he was riding in with his parents near Selma on Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal accident was reported just after 10:00 p.m. February 23, on Rose Avenue at Bethel Avenue.

As per the CHP report, the boy and his two parents were in a Kia Optima going eastbound on Rose Avenue when Karmjit Singh, 35, ran the light on northbound Bethel Avenue at speeds near 100 mph. The front of Singh’s BMW 750i hit the passenger side of the Optima and landed on its wheels in a dry irrigation canal. The Optima then slammed into a tree.

As a result of the crash, the boy who was riding as the right rear passenger, sustained life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to Selma Hospital by firefighters where the staff found a pulse. He was then airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His  parents were also hospitalized for their injuries.

The CHP affirmed that Singh, a Visalia resident, was driving on a suspended license after a DUI conviction in 2016. He was arrested and taken to Community Regional Medical Center where a blood sample was taken.

Meanwhile, no other details concerning the fatal crash were provided. The investigation is ongoing.

Our sincere sympathies go to the family and friends of the person killed in the crash. We wish them courage during these trying moments of losing their loved one.
