Eva Twardokens and 1 Seriously Injured in Watsonville Plane Accident at Monterey Bay Academy Airport
Monterey, California (February 18, 2019) – Two people were seriously injured when a small, two-seat plane crashed in Watsonville Saturday morning, according to authorities.
The accident happened at about 10:40 a.m. Saturday, February 9 at the Monterey Bay Academy Airport.
Authorities said the single-engine plane was attempting to land at the airport when for an unknown reason it crashed.
The nose of the plane and left side were damaged when it ended on the runway next to a farm field. Firefighters responded to the scene and cut off the right wing while attempting to pull a female pilot and her male passenger from the fuselage.
Both the pilot, identified as Eva Twardokens, and the unidentified passenger sustained major injuries and were airlifted to a hospital, where Twardokens was listed in critical condition.
The aircraft was registered to Twardokens. The National Transportation and Safety Board are investigating the crash.
