Thomas Utu ID’d as Pedestrian Killed in Vacaville Accident on Highway 80 near Alamo Drive

Vacaville, California (February 14, 2019) – The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a big rig Wednesday morning in Vacaville has been identified as Thomas Utu, 37, according to the Solano County coroner’s office.
The deadly accident happened at about 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, February 13 on Interstate Highway 80, just east of Alamo Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Martin Ponce, 54, of Daly City was driving an International truck/trailer combination on eastbound Interstate 80 when he reportedly saw the man walking ahead of him but was unable to stop and hit the victim.
Utu was declared dead at the scene. Ponce remained at the scene of the collision and cooperated with the authorities.
