Santa Rosa, California (February 5, 2019) – A man was struck and injured by a car on a rainy Friday night as he crossed West College Avenue, the Santa Rosa Police Department reported.

As per the report, the accident took place just before 7:40 p.m. in Santa Rosa.

The driver involved, 51-year-old Cristobal Barajas, of Santa Rosa, said he was driving a silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck eastbound in the No. 1 lane of West College Avenue when he hit an object. He immediately stopped and got out of the truck and realized he had hit a pedestrian.

SRPD and medical personnel responded to the scene and found the man lying down in the center median. The victim sustained major injuries including a possible broken leg. An off-duty nurse helped the patient before the paramedics arrived.

At the time of the accident, the street was dark, and it was raining.

As of Monday, the man remained in critical condition.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
