Willits, California (January 19, 2019) – One person was killed and another injured in a crash involving at least two vehicles near Willits on Friday evening, CHP said.

The incident took place at around 5 p.m. January 18 on Highway 101 at Reynolds Highway.

Details on how the vehicles collided were not immediately available. Earlier reports indicated that potentially three vehicles may have been involved.

At least one person needed to be extricated after being trapped in the wreckage.

One person died while a second victim was hospitalized with major injuries.

The identities of the parties involved were not released.

The crash led to the closure of the southbound lanes of Highway 101 as officials worked at the scene.

The cause of the wreck remained under investigation.
