Placerville, California (January 16, 2019) – Three people, including a 1-year-old girl, were killed Tuesday night in a traffic collision near Placerville, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal accident occurred at around 6:28 p.m. Tuesday, January 15 on Highway 50 near Camino Heights Drive, which is three miles east of Placerville.

According to the CHP, a vehicle was traveling on eastbound Highway 50 when its driver lost control in the rain and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Three people, who were in the first vehicle, including the 1-year-old girl, were killed in the accident. Their names have not been released pending identification and notification of family.

The diver of the second vehicle sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.

The CHP said speed and slick roads were considered factors in the accident.

Officials closed the No. 2 lane of Highway 50 for about three hours during the investigation. As of 9:30 p.m. the road was reopened.

Further details were not immediately available, and the crash remains under investigation.
