Man Killed in Oakland Bicycle Accident on Interstate 580 near MacArthur Boulevard

Oakland, California (July 31, 2021) – A male bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle late Friday night in Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly collision happened at around 10:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, on the eastbound side of Interstate 580, just west of MacArthur Boulevard
The CHP said the man was riding his bicycle in the second lane from the left when a vehicle struck him. He was then hit by another vehicle.
Fatal Bicycle Accident on Interstate 580 in Oakland
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the man lying in the roadway. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The crash prompted the authorities to temporarily close eastbound Interstate 580 while the investigation took place. It is undetermined whether alcohol or drugs were suspected factors in the collision.
