Cottonwood, California (July 28, 2021) –  One of the two men who were injured Tuesday night in a two-vehicle collision near Cottonwood has been identified as Elton James Spain, 45, of Burney.

The crash happened at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, on Interstate 5 near Hooker Creek Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2014 Dodge Ram, driven by a 56-year-old Corona man, was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 at an unsafe speed when he crashed into the rear of the trailer of a Kenworth semi-truck, operated by Troy Lynn Tempest, 59, of Spanaway, Washington, who was also traveling in the same direction.

Following the collision, the Dodge came to rest in the left lane.

Interstate 5 Collision in Cottonwood Sends 2 to Hospital

Spain, who was riding as a passenger in the Dodge, was taken to Mercy Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the Dodge was also hospitalized at the same hospital with minor injuries.

No further details were released.

The accident remains under investigation.
