Samuel Garcia Hospitalized after Blythe Crash on Interstate 10 near Arrowhead Boulevard

Blythe, California (July 21, 2021) – Samuel Garcia, 60, of Whittier, was hospitalized early Wednesday morning following a traffic collision that killed one person early Wednesday morning in Blythe.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 2:14 a.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate 10, just west of Arrowhead Boulevard.
The CHP said Garcia was driving a big rig eastbound on Interstate 10 when, for unknown reasons, he allowed the tractor-trailer to drift on the shoulder, where it crashed into two parked trucks.
A 41-year-old man from Maricopa, Arizona, who was outside one of the two trucks handling mechanical issues, was hit by the tractor-trailer.
After the crash, the big rig overturned.
The Arizona man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
Garcia was taken to a local hospital with a head injury. A woman in one of the vehicles complained of pain, but it was unknown if she was taken to the hospital.
Further details about the crash were not immediately provided.
The accident remains under investigation.
