Man Arrested after Merced DUI Crash near Gracey Elementary School on Northwest Avenue

Merced, California (July 11, 2021) – Authorities have arrested a suspect involved in a DUI hit-and-run accident that left one person injured Friday in Merced.
The crash occurred on Friday, July 9, near Gracey Elementary School on Northwest Avenue.
According to the authorities, two vehicles collided for unknown reasons in the area.
The impact caused one of the vehicles involved to overturn.

A passenger in one of the vehicles was transported to a hospital with a traumatic arm injury. The name and condition of the patient were not immediately disclosed.
The driver of the overturned car fled on foot . The suspect, later identified as Royal Santos, 20, was located in the 800 block of U Street.
Police determined that Santos was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was ultimately arrested on suspicion of fleeing the scene of a collision that caused a traumatic injury and felony DUI.
The crash remains under investigation.
