Banning, California (July 10, 2021) – One person was killed and six other people were injured Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Banning, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The deadly accident happened shortly before 1:40 p.m. on Interstate 10 near Hargrave Street.

Authorities said two vehicles collided for unknown reasons on the eastbound side of the freeway.

After the impact, one of the vehicles involved overturned and landed on its side against a tree.

One person was ejected from their vehicle as a result of the crash.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash and pronounced one person dead at the scene. Three other people sustained major injuries while the remaining three had minor injuries.

The crash prompted the officers to temporarily close the No. 3 and 4 lanes on the eastbound Interstate 10 while the investigation and cleanup took place.

The name of the deceased person was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
