Grass Valley, California (July 8, 2021) – Authorities have identified the man who died earlier last month following a traffic collision in Grass Valley as Donald Green, 83, of Grass Valley.

The deadly accident took place in the area of Highway 49 and McKnight Way on June 4, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, a Volkswagen Passat was heading southbound on Highway 49 when, for an unknown reason, it collided with a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu sedan that was turning left onto northbound Highway 49 from a dirt pull-out road.

Green, who was the driver of the Chevrolet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Joseph Lawson, 29, of Citrus Heights, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The two drivers were wearing their seat belts when the crash happened.  Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the collision.

Further details regarding the accident were not immediately available.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
