Salinas, California (July 7, 2021) – A motorcyclist was killed early Wednesday morning in a traffic collision in Salinas, according to authorities.

At around 2:18 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of the John Street overcrossing above U.S. Highway 101, to investigate the report of a motorcycle crash.

Authorities said the motorcyclist was heading eastbound on John Street when, for an unknown reason, he allowed the bike to cross over the double yellow line and collided head-on with an SUV.

Salinas Crash on John Street Kills Motorcyclist

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The crash prompted the officers to close John Street in both directions for nearly six hours.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
