Moreno Valley, California (July 7, 2021) – A two-car collision has claimed the life of one person and left three other people injured Tuesday night in Moreno Valley, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

At around 11:58 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, authorities responded to the area of Cactus Avenue and Indian Street, to investigate the report of a traffic accident.

Authorities determined that a black Tesla Model-S was speeding northbound on Indian Street when the driver allegedly ran a red light and collided with a grey Nissan Versa that was heading eastbound on Cactus Avenue on a green signal light.

As a result of the collision, the Nissan rolled over several times and landed on its roof while the Tesla went off the road, slammed through a cinderblock wall, and landed in the backyard of a home.

As the Nissan was overturning, the driver was ejected into the northbound lanes of Indian Street.

Despite life-saving measures performed by the emergency responders, the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver and two passengers of the Tesla were taken to a nearby hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Their current condition is unknown.

It is undetermined whether alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the collision. The intersection of Cactus Avenue and Indian Street was closed while the investigation and cleanup took place.
