Modesto, California (June 24, 2021) – Authorities have identified the woman who died early Thursday morning following an alleged DUI crash in Modesto as Erika Navarro, 33, of Turlock.
The deadly crash, which involved a car and a truck, happened at about 2:00 a.m. on Oakdale Road near Wylie Drive.
Police said Jorge Cardenas, 30, of Turlock, was driving a sedan northbound on Oakdale Road when he lost control of the vehicle, which then veered into the opposite lane, where it collided with an oncoming pickup truck.

Navarro, who was a passenger in the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cardenas sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The operator of the pickup suffered minor injuries.
Investigators later determined that Cardenas was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. He faces charges of homicide, DUI, and vehicular homicide after being released from the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
