Man Dies, Another Hospitalized after Hughson Collision on Geer Road near East Hatch Road
Hughson, California (June 23, 2021) – A head-on crash has claimed the life of a man and left another with serious injuries Wednesday afternoon near the Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center in Hughson, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly collision was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Geer Road, just north of East Hatch Road.
The CHP said a 61-year-old Turlock man was driving a 2005 Chevy pickup southbound on Geer Road when, for an unknown reason, he allowed the vehicle to veer to the right and slammed into a raised curb.
The impact sent the pickup left and directly into the path of an oncoming 2013 Nissan sedan. Both vehicles ultimately collided head-on.

The male driver of the Nissan died at the scene. His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Chevy was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. His current condition remained unknown.
All parties involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Investigators believed alcohol played a role in the crash.
The crash prompted the officers to close Geer Road between Hatch and Jantzen roads for several hours during the investigation.
The collision remains under investigation.
