Weaverville, California (June 11, 2021) – The elderly pedestrian who was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening at an intersection in Weaverville has been identified by the California Highway Patrol as Barbara Bailey, 82, of Weaverville.

The major injury pedestrian collision happened at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9 in the area of Highway 299 and Highway 3, CHP said.

According to the CHP, Bailey was crossing the street through a crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle that was turning onto eastbound Highway 299 from southbound Highway 3.

CHP said the driver, Elizabeth Riley, 69, of Douglas City, did not see Bailey on the crosswalk and her vehicle struck Bailey.

Major Injury Collision in Weaverville

Bailey was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries. Her current condition was unknown.

Intoxication was not considered a factor in the collision.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately given, and the accident remains under investigation.
