Jesus Barboza Injured in Merced County Head-On Collision on Highway 59 near Sandy Mush Road

Merced County, California (June 9, 2021) – Jesus Barboza, 54, of Fresno, was injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
On Tuesday, June 8, at around 2:20 p.m., CHP officers responded to a traffic collision involving a big rig and a sedan on Highway 59, just south of Sandy Mush Road.
CHP said Barboza was driving northbound on Highway 59 when, for unknown reasons, his 2014 Freightliner veered across the center median and collided head-on with an oncoming 2015 Toyota Camry, operated by a 38-year-old Fresno woman, the CHP said.
The Toyota sustained major damage upon the impact.
Major Injury Traffic Collision in Merced County
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated Santos who was trapped in the wreckage.
Santos was then airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries. Her current condition was unknown.
Barboza complained of pain after the crash but did not need hospitalization.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
