Detron Williams Injured in Imperial County Crash on Highway 98 near Holdridge Road
Imperial County, California (May 4, 2021) – Detron Williams, 41, of Campo, was injured after being involved in a fatal head-on crash in Imperial County Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident occurred at around 11:54 a.m. Monday, May 3, on Highway 98, just east of Holdridge Road, a short distance from Bond’s Corner.
The CHP said Williams was driving a 2005 Lincoln eastbound on Highway 98 at an unspecified speed when, for unknown reasons, he allowed the vehicle to drift into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a westbound 2002 Pontiac driven by an 83-year-old Calexico man.
The impact caused the Lincoln to overturn.
Williams was treated at the scene for minor injuries while his female passenger was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center with a major injury to her left leg.
The driver of the Pontiac died at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash. The CHP said weather conditions were sunny, dry and warm when the accident happened.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
