Mistie Upchurch Seriously Injured in Fatal Head-On Collision on Highway 98 in Imperial County
Mistie Upchurch Airlifted after Imperial County Crash on Highway 98 near Holdridge Road
Imperial County, California (May 3, 2021) – Mistie Upchurch, 23, of Campo, was airlifted to a hospital after suffering major injuries following a deadly head-on collision Monday morning in Imperial County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal accident occurred at around 11:54 a.m. Monday, May 3, on Highway 98, just east of Holdridge Road, a short distance from Bond’s Corner.
The CHP said a 2005 Lincoln was heading eastbound on Highway 98 at an unspecified speed when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted into the westbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming 2002 Pontiac driven by an 83-year-old Calexico man.
As a result of the collision, the Lincoln rolled over.

The driver of the Pontiac, whose name has not been disclosed pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Upchurch, who was riding as a passenger in the Lincoln, sustained a major injury to her left leg and was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the Lincoln was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash. Weather conditions were sunny, dry and warm at the time of the accident.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
