Placerville, California (May 1, 2021) – The Placerville Police Department has arrested a suspect involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash last week on Friday night in Placerville, according to a local news source.

The fatal hit-and-run crash happened at around 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, on upper Broadway Drive Airport Road and a homeless encampment.

Witnesses told the authorities that Ronald Ameral, 64, was walking along the road when he was hit by a 2007-08 Infiniti G5 that was heading eastbound on Broadway.

Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on Broadway Drive in Placerville

First responders arrived at the scene and found Ameral suffering from major injuries as a result of the crash. The medics performed life-saving measures on Ameral and took him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The involved driver stopped briefly and then drove off on eastbound Broadway Drive.  The suspect, later identified as Efrain Gonzalez, 20, was later located at his home.

Gonzalez admitted to hitting Ameral. He was eventually booked at the El Dorado County Jail for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and the hit-and-run causing death.

His bail was set at $225,000.

The accident remains under investigation.
