Bakersfield, California (April 20, 2021) – A man was killed in a Tuesday morning traffic accident that left a woman injured in Bakersfield, authorities said.

The deadly single-vehicle accident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Panorama Drive, just west of Mt. Vernon Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident began when officers tried to stop a white truck, but the driver sped away.

The chase began and continued to Panorama Drive where the driver drove off the road, went down an embankment where it overturned several times.

Sadly, the male driver who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected onto the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A female passenger in the vehicle sustained moderate injuries in the accident and was hospitalized for treatment.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
